There is enormous significance in what follows. It can be understood on a basic level, but also holds enough depth that eternity will not exhaust the subject. We invite you to prayerfully consider God’s love for you.
“God is love.” 1 John 4:8. Love is the very nature of God.
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3: 23
“The wages of sin is death.” Romans 6: 23
“The gift of God is eternal life.” Romans 6: 23
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3: 16 (NKJV)
“ ‘Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?’ Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ” Matthew 22: 36—39. The law is love. The law is the nature of God. Since God does not change (Hebrews 13: 8) the moral law - including the Sabbath - cannot change.
“Sin is lawlessness.” 1 John 3: 4. Sin is lovelessness. Sin is not loving. Sin is selfishness. Love is selflessness. The opposite of love is not hate. The opposite of love is sin.
“ ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ So Paul and Silas said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.’ ” Acts 16: 30, 31
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14: 15
The Ten Commandments are a description of how love behaves.
Paraphrased from Exodus 20: 4—17:
Because you love Me you will have only one God.
Because you love Me you will look only to Me and worship only Me.
Because you love Me you will use My name reverently.
Because you love Me you will spend each seventh-day Sabbath with Me.
Because you love Me you will honor your parents.
Because you love Me you will value and protect life.
Because you love Me you will be sexually pure.
Because you love Me you will respect other’s property.
Because you love Me you will speak honestly and truthfully.
Because you love Me you will be content with the possessions I have given you.
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 4: 16, 17 (NKJV)
